Engineers attempt to get Vulcan off the ground

Engineers are working hard to repair the Vulcan bomber currently grounded at Farnborough Airport.

The historic plane - the only flying aircraft of its kind in the world - is due to take off from Farnborough at 1pm on Wednesday.

The new take-off slot was booked after previous scheduled times of 10am and 12pm had to be abandoned.

The Vulcan is due to fly back to its home at RAF Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire.

A planned flypast of Southampton to mark the departure of the QEII ocean liner on Armistice Day on Tuesday had to be cancelled after an electrical fault.

The Vulcan would have been the centrepiece of a tribute by the RAF to the QEII for her role in the Falklands War, when she was called into action as a support ship.

Vulcans themselves played a pivotal part in the conflict, bombing Stanley Airport to put the facility out of use for Argentine fighter jets.
