Collapsed sewer causes road closure

13/11/2008

Traffic on a major road into Aldershot is set to be disrupted from Thursday as workmen begin trying to mend a collapsed sewer.

Grovesnor Road will be closed from 1pm between Halimote Road and Church Lane East for three or four days while the sewer is fixed.

Traffic will be diverted via Church Lane East, through Church Hill, along High Street and into Princes Way.

Hampshire County Council said the closure was due to the collapse of a Thames Water sewer in the middle of the road which has left a large cavity underneath.

Police, fire and ambulance services and bus companies have been warned not to use the route.

The county council said it was working closely with Thames Water to make sure the problem is dealt with quickly and efficiently.

More details soon.
