Police conducting metal detection checks at Aldershot railway station caught a man concealing cannabis.
The drugs were found in Daniel Delahaye’s suitcase, the town’s magistrates heard.
Delahaye, 20, who had admitted poss-essing cannabis and failing to answer police bail, appeared before them for sentencing on Friday.
Serena Edwards, prosecuting, said that at about 2.30pm on October 23 last year police stopped and searched Delahaye and his brother on account of their behaviour.
Delahaye was found to have cannabis in cling film in a plastic bag in his suitcase, and a further search at Aldershot police station revealed more of the drug — a total of 14.241 grammes.
In an interview, he told officers the drugs were for personal use and he bought them in bulk because it was cheaper.
Miss Edwards said the failing to answer bail offence arose from Delahaye not attending court on the drugs matter on January 29, and this breached a conditional discharge given for battery in October last year.
Alecks Lloyd, defending, said Delahaye, from West Bromwich, had no excuse for missing his court appearance on January 29. He said he lost his bail sheet and did not phone the court to check the date.
Mr Lloyd said Delahaye lived with his parents and relied on income from them, but was looking for work. He added that Delahaye was in Aldershot because he was visiting his brother, a University of Surrey student.
Mr Lloyd asked the magistrates not to punish Delahaye for breaching his conditional discharge by not answering bail, because the drugs charge and the battery offence were not alike. He stressed that although Delahaye was caught with drugs in a public place, they were not on display.
Delahaye was fined £75 for possessing cannabis and £25 for failing to answer bail, reduced from £100 and £50 respectively for early guilty pleas, and ordered to pay a £15 victims’ surcharge.
