Robbers held up a bookies in Aldershot at gunpoint on Tuesday evening before speeding away in a getaway car.

Two men threatened staff at Eden Bookmakers in North Lane with a gun and stole what police have called "a substantial amount of cash" at around 8.30pm.

They then made off in a green 4x4 parked outside and driven by a third man.

All three men were wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

Police are appealing for information about the robbery on Tuesday.

In a statement to the News Detective Constable Dawn White said: "This robbery happened during the evening at a time when other people would have been around and someone may have witnessed it.

"Nobody was injured during the incident but members of staff were very shaken.

"We would ask anyone who saw a vehicle matching the description or anyone with information about the robbery to contact police as soon as possible."

Call Det Con White at Aldershot police station on 0845 0454545 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. It is the second incident in the News area involving a 4x4 in recent days.

On February 24 a green Land Rover was used to drive through the window of a Londis store in Redvers Buller Road, Farnborough.

The thieves were after the cash register but got away with nothing.

They later abandoned and burned the Land Rover in Derwent Avenue, Ash.
