Fleet company opens US branch

A FLEET-based stair lift company continues to climb new heights.

MediTek has seen exports exceed 30% of sales and is firmly on track to double its order book over the next two years.

It has also just opened a new regional office in Pennsylvania, USA.

MediTek managing director Phil Rice is delighted, but not surprised, by his company’s continued success.

“Remarkably, there are now more people in the country over 65 than under 16 and each day around 50,000 people reach retirement age,” he said.

“This demographic change is not merely restricted to the UK, it’s a global phenomenon.

“Naturally, with an ageing population comes demand for products and services specific to our senior citizens.

“Today people are becoming much more accepting of technology aimed at improving mobility and independence and this is good news for businesses such as MediTek.”

Mr Rice said the company has enjoyed steady periods of sustained growth since the introduction of a new business strategy and has invested significantly in a number of areas including product development, sales and marketing.

“This has allowed the company to be in a position to invest in the second phase of its growth strategy, which includes acquiring new premises to house additional production capacity, warehousing, a new showroom, sales office and a research and development facility,” he added.

“We looked at all options, including relocation.

“However, I’m pleased to say that we decided to accommodate our growth by expanding our existing sites  here in England.

“With so many of our competitors moving manufacturing out of the UK or being acquired by overseas companies, I am happy to say MediTek is committed to retain manufacturing in the UK.”

Founded in 1996, the company employs 28 full-time staff and exports to 14 countries.

It built the first battery-powered stair-lift that is now the industry standard and widely copied.

“Everyone at MediTek is proud that our products are made to the highest standard using quality materials,” said Mr Rice.
