TWO burglars, who stole £60 from a Blackwater home by distracting the 97-year-old owner, committed what police described as a “cowardly” and “despicable” crime.
The incident took place in Meadow Way, Blackwater, on Friday November 6.
According to the victim, a man in his early 20s knocked on her door at around 3pm claiming that he had accidentally driven into her garden fence.
The woman followed the man into the garden to inspect the damage.
Upon returning to the house, the woman spotted a second man in his early 50s standing in the hallway.
When both men left through the front door, the woman discovered her bedroom had been entered and a purse containing £60 had been stolen.
"Despicable crime"
Detective Constable Andy Grieve, of Aldershot CID, said: “This was a despicable crime where a vulnerable member of the community was targeted. Burglaries like this are cowardly and we want to hear from any witnesses or anyone who has information about these two men.
“This incident happened at a time when schools were closing for the day and there may have been a number of people in the area.”
The first man is described as being in his early 20s, white, of medium build and about 5ft 8ins. He was wearing a dark suit and possibly a tie.
The second man, who was also white, was in his early 50s, short and dressed in dark clothing.
Police said householders should not be afraid to refuse callers entry to their home unless they carry valid ID and are prepared to be checked.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Det Con Grieve at Aldershot police station on 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
