Countryliner winding-up proceedings adjourned

By Richard Pain
November 25, 2009

A COURT hearing over winding-up proceedings being brought against one of the region's biggest bus and coach operators has been adjourned.

Representatives from Countryliner Buses Limited, Countryliner Coach Hire Limited and Countryliner Sussex Limited were due at the High Court on Wednesday, but they will now return in January.

All three firms are part of Countryliner, which is based at Merrow in Guildford.

A total of 23 routes serve parts of Surrey and north-east Hampshire.

As well as commercial services throughout Guildford, Waverley, Mole Valley and Woking, the operator also provides several school runs.

These include daily buses from Ripley to Howard of Effingham School and from Milford to Waverley Abbey School.

The number 48 runs from Woking to Farnbough, via Deepcut and Frimley, while there are also a number of routes serving towns like Basingstoke, Alton and Petersfield.

Countryliner started operating bus services in Guildford in 2001, but its history dates back to 1911 and the East Surrey Bus Company, which was based in Reigate.

A Surrey County Council spokesman said on Wednesday that the authority was "monitoring developments".

Bosses at Countryliner could not be reached for comment.

The winding-up petition was brought by the commissioners for HM Revenue & Customs.

I have been able to discover that Countryliner are being taken to court by the tax man. The rescheduled proceedings are to take place on 11 January.

This is the worst article I have ever read, it has no details on the case.

Your article does not state who is instigating these proceedings nor the reason for the winding up. I would consider this to be a very worrying matter and further details would be very welcome
