BAE Systems to cut fifth of Frimley workforce
By Mike WrightNovember 26, 2009
NEARLY a hundred workers in Frimley face redundancy after global weapons manufacturer BAE Systems announced plans to axe 640 jobs nationwide.
The company said on Thursday that 99 posts could be lost at its Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) business on Victory Point, where 547 people work.
BAE Systems said that it was starting the redundancy process in response to a slump in the defence market.
Rory Fisher, managing director for BAE Systems Insyte, said: "We have a responsibility to address a reduction in our forecast workload and manage our cost base to remain competitive and meet our customers' future requirements.
"We will work with our employees and their representatives to explore ways of mitigating these potential job losses and we will ensure employees are fully supported throughout this process."
