A YATELEY school has beaten off competition from more than 100 others to see an idea for a playground painting brought to life.
Pupils at Westfields Junior School, off School Lane, are celebrating following their success in winning a set of playground graphics from Sovereign Play Equipment.
The school claimed the set free of charge after entering a competition that asked schools to invent their own playground designs. As a result, the winning idea was professionally designed for the school and was recently installed into the playground by Sovereign.
Westfield’s pupils were even able to watch as their masterpiece was brought to life.
School council
Westfields teacher, Natalie Wallace, explained that the children were ‘delighted’ with their win and the finished design on the playground.
She said: “It was our 2008-2009 school council that entered the competition and they were thrilled when they found out they had won.
“The most exciting thing for them was watching the design being placed on the playground and actually being asked their opinion from which way they wanted it facing, to how far out the ‘lily pads’ needed to be. They felt very proud that they even had a say on how it was printed on the playground,” Ms Wallace said.
She added that the children were extremely happy with the final result, even teaching others in the school how to play their game.
