Homes at risk of flooding as sewage pipe bursts
By Jack SommersNovember 30, 2009
HUNDREDS of homes are at high risk of flooding across the Get Hampshire area.
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the River Blackwater, which flows through Aldershot, Farnborough, Camberley, and Cove Brook.
There are also alerts the River Wey and the River Whitewater, which flows through including North Warnborough, Hook, and the River Hart including Crondall, Crookham Village, Hartley Wintney and Fleet.
This comes after sewage mains in Cove broke on Sunday night (November 29), flooding Cove FC’s ground with sewage and flooding three nearby homes and several garages.
The sewage flooded the pitch and nearby Squirrel Drive but missed the homes.
Residents of Beta Road were not so lucky, with several houses filled with inches of foul water.
Firefighters were on the scene from around 10pm to 2am to help householders get rid of the water.
Ian Crawley, a crew manager at Rushmoor Fire Station who was there, said firefighters had to wait for Thames Water to switch the broken main off.
Thames Water staff were still on the scene on Monday morning.
