Labour takes Aldershot council seat from Lib Dems
By Pete CastleDecember 11, 2009
LABOUR has won a comfortable victory in the Heron Wood by-election.
Cllr Alex Crawford is the new representative in the Aldershot ward at Rushmoor Borough Council, after winning the election that was forced by the resignation of former Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Bowers. The Lib Dems came second, with the Tories last.
The victory means that Labour now has six seats at the 42-seat council.
The loss for the Liberal Democrats means depite still being the largest opposition party at Rushmoor, it has no representatives at all in Aldershot.
The full results from Thursday's poll are:
ALEX CRAWFORD Labour 437 votes (elected)
PHILIP THOMPSON Liberal Democrat 354 votes
ANDREW DUNCAN Conservative 259 votes
For more reaction and analysis of the result, see the News & Mail, out on Friday December 18.
