Nostalgia enthusiasts get on the buses
June 02, 2010
PEOPLE enjoying the bank holiday weekend in Farnham had the chance to step back in time with a historic buses display.
The railway station car park was the venue on Sunday for the Aldershot and District Bus Interest Group’s (ADBIG) 2010 Preserved Bus Running Day.
More than 20 lovingly restored buses, many of which had served the streets of Farnham in the 1950s and 60s, descended on the town giving people a chance to indulge in a nostalgic ride.
The five-hour event saw almost 60 departures from the station, with buses heading off to destinations such as Aldershot, Crondall, Puttenham and Seale, and to venues like the Tilford Rural Life Museum in Farnham itself.
Event organiser, Bill Tutty, said the day was a wonderful opportunity for people to experience public transport from a bygone age.
He said: "All the buses were driven by fully qualified public service vehicle licence holders, some of whom actually drove the same buses in service on these routes well over 40 years ago."
