VIOLENCE marred Aldershot’s annual Gurkha Cup football competition when two boys were stabbed.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following the assault which was on the afternoon of the tournament at football fields near Aldershot Military Stadium in Queen’s Avenue.

Police were called to a fight at around 1.10pm on Sunday, May 30.

They arrived to find two boys had been stabbed and a third had minor injuries.

All three were taken to Frimley Park Hospital for treatment.

Police said the fight did not involve anyone who was connected to the football event.

Detective Constable Sue Champion, of Aldershot CID, said: “There were a large number of people in the area at the time.

“We would appeal to anyone who witnessed it, or anyone with information to come forward and contact us.

"If you were at the competition and saw anything suspicious, please call us as soon as possible.”

Chief Inspector Duncan Weston, police commander for the Rushmoor area, said in a statement: “This event has taken place in Aldershot for many years without incident and attracts teams from all over Britain.

“This kind of incident appears out of character with the history and purpose of the event.”

A 16-year-old boy from Kent was later arrested and bailed in connection with the fight.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Champion on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
