Crews raced to fire at Tweseldown course

By Tim Tonkin
June 14, 2010

A FIRE which saw crews from Rushmoor tackle a heathland blaze for over two-hours is not being treated as suspicious.

Crews were called to Twesledown Racecourse on Bourley Road, Fleet at around 4.05pm on Sunday, after reports of a fire having broken out.

Four fire engines, two landrovers and a specialist multi-role vehicle were all involved in bringing the flames under control, with crews not leaving the racecourse until 6.42pm.

A spokesman for Rushmoor fire station confirmed that the alert had been raised by Farnborough airport after staff there had noticed large plumes of smoke coming from the site.

He added that the cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious and that no one was injured during the incident.

I happened to come across the fire yesterday while riding my bike in the woods. It was pretty intense, and I managed to grab a few photos before the heat made me retreat.
