Pupils in Eversley bring wartime era back to life
By Tim TonkinJune 21, 2010
STUDENTS at a school in Eversley have enjoyed bringing the past back to life, with a week of celebrations for the end of the Second World War.
Pupils at the school took part in activities including building an Anderson Shelter, learning about period music and dance and reliving a 1940s classroom.
There was even a visit from author Max Arthur whose book “Last of the few” lists the accounts of survivors of the battle of Britain.
Pupils rounded off the week with a victory-day style parade in which the members of the school’s brass and wind band put on a tremendous performance.
Excellent
Speaking about the week’s events school spokesman Maria Lloyd said it had been an excellent learning experience and that the children had enjoyed it immensely.
She said: “We’ve previously done day-long events looking at the Victorian period but this was the first time the school has staged a whole week of events.
“It was really informative and enjoyable and gave children a chance to learn about the past in an original way.”
