Replica AK47 assault rifles stolen from van

A CACHE of replica firearms including 20 fake Kalashnikovs have been stolen from a van in Aldershot.

Between 3.30am and 4am on June 15 a Ford Transit Van that was parked in Rowhill Avenue was broken into by two men. Approximately 20 replica AK47s, three replica M4s and a replica sniper rifle were then stolen.

The replica weapons are used as part of a military re-enactment business, run by the victim.

Detective Inspector Dave Sackman, of Aldershot CID, said: “Although these replica weapons pose no threat to members of the public this was a concerning incident and we want to find the items as soon as possible.

Suspicious circumstances

“If you have any information about who was responsible for this theft or if you witnessed the incident please contact us. We also want to hear from anyone who is offered a replica firearm to buy under suspicious circumstances.

“We would ask people who store these kind of replica weapons to be responsible and think about how secure they are.

“We would advise business owners to avoid leaving items in vans or other vehicles overnight, if they are not there they can’t be stolen.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Aldershot CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I think it is safe to say these guns will be used for criminal activity. I would also like to know how easy it is going to be to modify then to fire live rounds. Only a few weeks ago there was a story about a man who had been modifying replicas to fire live rounds and with 40 - 100 rpm that would cause the public a little concern.

I'll take K1's comment on the chin. My attributed comment of "posing no threat to members of the public" really isn't the message that I intended to convey at all. My main concern was to recover the replicas before any of them were put to a criminal use. Like the other commentators I too question the need to store this type of property in the back of a van

I wonder if Detective Inspector Dave Sackman work colleagues believes these weapons "pose no threat to members of the public"? An armed police officer has no idea, what so ever, if a weapon is real or not! Not, for example, that I give a damn about the bad person using it to hold up a bank. I feel sorry for the police officer who has no option but to take another mans life. The police should seriously bollock this idiot for leaving weapons not secured in the back of his wagon. What type of weirdo needs to have replicas weapons like these in the first place? He is not armed forces personel nor is he a police/government agent. What a bloody idiot!

There is no way these should've been left in a van overnight. It doesn't matter if they're genuine or not, whoever has them now can cause plenty of mayhem regardless!
