Lawyer cleared of involvement in Ritz hotel scam

July 02, 2010

A LAWYER accused of helping to set up a fraudulent sale of The Ritz hotel was cleared of all involvement in the scam on Thursday.

Conn Farell, 58, was said to have played a key role in a con which saw buyers tricked into handing over £1m for the five-star hotel in Piccadilly, central London.

The solicitor, of Cambridge Road, Aldershot, was acquitted of conspiracy to defraud following a four-week trial at Southwark Crown Court.

His co-defendant Anthony Lee, 49, of Broad Lane, Goole, North Yorkshire, was convicted of obtaining a money transfer by deception but acquitted of conspiracy to defraud.

Patrick Dolan, 68, of Phillip Lane, Seven Sisters, north London, was also found not guilty of conspiracy to defraud.
