Woman attacked on way home from night out

July 06, 2010

A WOMAN was attacked on her way home from an evening out in Aldershot on Saturday night.

At around 11.35pm, the 21-year-old victim was walking out of the town centre along Victoria Road when she noticed a man following her as she turned into Windsor Way.

She shouted at him and ran off when he tried to talk to her, but the man then grabbed the woman and pushed her to the ground.

The victim screamed and a number of people came to her aid as the attacker fled towards Crimea Road.

Police said the victim suffered cuts and grazes and was badly shaken following the incident.

The man was aged between 25 and 30, 5ft 4in tall, with straight, dark hair and wearing a dark, long-sleeved top and jeans.

Detective Constable Graham Robson, of Aldershot CID, said: “This was a serious incident and although it happened late in the evening there would have been people around making their way home from the town centre.

“The victim was left very shaken up and we are appealing for witnesses to identify the man responsible.

“We want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw a man matching the description in the area on Saturday night.

“We would remind everyone walking late at night to be vigilant and report any suspicious people to police.”

Police said it was advisable to prepare a route home after a night out, book a taxi, let someone know where you are and have enough credit on your mobile phone to make calls.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact DC Robson at Aldershot police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I have been told by the security at tesco's Aldershot that the cctv's on the outside of the building are dummies, this was later confirmed by the police farce. I learnt this after an incident in the car park, so it is probably safe to say if you are in trouble and you are within range of a cctv then it is only 50/50 as to if it is a real camera or not, sods law clearly staes it will be a dummy. Other points to consider are that even if the cctv is real, is it 'looking' in your direction? is the clarity good enough to identify and eventually prosecute? or is it a shoddy time lapse thing that misses what you wanted it to capture? or if it is real and working, is it manned? Lots of ifs and buts here, I don't trust them one bit.

I know that the cctv is monitored by the security at the wellington centre and if they have the same policie as princes mead then they only have certain camera's on by request. I was informed of this by one of the princes mead security guards when my friends purse was grabbed at burger king. So Mdurrant's comment is probably fact.

Are we allowed to ask about the attackers background, caucasian or otherwise? Did he speak with any kind of accent? Any camera stills from the plethora of CCTV units that cover the town?
