Public show days set to wow
By Laura NightingaleJuly 15, 2010
AFTER all the multi-billion pound business deals have been thrashed out, thousands of people will flock to the show at the weekend for the traditional feast of family fun.
Airshow organisers have once again proved they are more than just organisers of a trade exhibition by putting together a public show that will make for an exciting day out for familes.
Held on July 24 and 25, the first weekend of the summer holiday, the public days will offer a variety of attractions to keep visitors entertained throughout the day.
With free entry for the under 16s, courtesy of Rolls-Royce, highlights will include the chance to see the Bloodhound Super Sonic Car aiming to break the world land speed record.
There is also the Space Zone, an area dedicated to the future of aerospace and featuring roaming robots, as well as a whole host of rides from carousels, helter skelters, bouncy castles and climbing walls.
The Crafty Arty Party, a huge success with children at the 2008 show, makes a welcome return, while two flight simulators will give visitors the full flight experience in the cockpit of a Spitfire and a Red Arrows Hawk trainer.
Other attractions will include daredevil stunts and tricks from Team Extreme, the world-class skateboard, BMX and inline skate display team.
Not forgetting the air display, which this year will include a Second World War dogfight, the mighty B52 bomber, the powerful F22 Raptor, the Black Cats helicopter team and breathtaking aerobatics displays by the Blades and the Red Arrows.
Along with the vast array of static aircraft on display and the exhibitions halls to wander through, including the new Space Pavilion, event organisers said they had aimed to provide something to entertain the whole family.
Amanda Stainer, Farnborough International’s exhibition and events director, said: “It’s a huge undertaking to turn the trade show into a public festival for all the family.
“The site doubles in size, the visitor numbers swell and we need to make sure everyone is entertained.
“This year we have pulled out all the stops and the show looks as thought it will be a groundbreaker.”
