Man wins year-long bus pass to go green
By Pete CastleJuly 16, 2010
A SUPERMARKET nightshift worker from Farnborough has won free travel for a year as part of a bus company drive to become greener.
Robert Cope, who commutes daily by bus from his home in Farnborough to the Tesco store in Aldershot where he works, entered the competition by completing an online travel survey.
Rob Jones, acting operations manager for Stagecoach in Aldershot, presented Robert with an annual Megarider gold pass worth £740 that will allow free travel on any bus in the region.
The company ran a ‘green week’ as part of plans to reduce its own carbon footprint and efforts to promote cleaner and cheaper ways of travelling by public transport instead of in the car.
Mr Jones said: “We are investing in more fuel efficient vehicles, providing training in more efficient driving techniques, saving energy at offices and depots. while developing green travel plans incentives for staff, customers and partner organisations.”
