Yateley man set to build on marathon training

By Tim Tonkin
July 20, 2010

A YATELEY man is hitting the streets in training ahead of next year’s London marathon, where he plans to raise money for disadvantaged children.

Daniel Brinkies, 29, who lives in Yateley is doing bucket loads of training in his bid to achieve his life time ambition of running in next year’s London Marathon on behalf of Feed The Children UK.

Mr Brinkies, who owns and runs his own construction company “Solid Construction Groundworks”, is currently training hard to build a firm foundation for the marathon and has already completed a series of half marathons.

He said: “We are already planning our fundraising strategy and my Just Giving Page has already been set up so I do hope people will support me on this run. It’s my aim to raise as much money as I can for Feed The Children whilst at the same time achieving a good result in my first ever marathon. Planning and training are key to my success.”

Feed The Children (UK) is first and foremost a children’s charity but it is also a humanitarian and international relief organisation.

Supporting

The charity works both in the UK and around the world in areas of desperate need, developing sustainable communities, providing food, clothing and meeting other life supporting requirements.

The head of the charity, Brian Main, paid tribute to Mr Brinkies hard work adding that he had high hopes for him come next year’s marathon.

He added that their were still running events open to people who wanted to help in the fundraising.

He said: “We were lucky enough to secure two places in the 2011 marathon for people who wanted to run for us and we have several other running challenges for others to take part in and raise money for the charity.”
