Young trees damaged by vandals

July 30, 2010

VANDALS caused damage costing hundreds of pounds by destroying around half a dozen young trees in Aldershot last week.

Contractors were called to clear up the mess after the trees in Guildford Road were snapped off at the trunks.

Council parks officer Andy Ford, who is responsible for Rushmoor's tree planting schedule, said the "unfortunate" incident had destroyed around six trees.

He said: “This is a pretty sad act.

"Somebody has gone up the road and snapped off virtually every tree.”

Each tree costs taxpayers around £80 to buy and plant.

It makes me sick that our council tax pays for these trees to go in and then some mindless person or persons goes around to distroy them - as their are many of us like to inprove our enviroment - such with joining in the rushmoor in bloom competition - if it makes us here unhappy what does it say to visitors to the area say - [they must be rough round here] which is very untrue!

If and when they catch these people that do things like this they should be made to pay for it, - they should made to work it off if under certain age that way they might learn from it? but I very much doubt it will.
