Tesco armed robbery: Farnborough man arrested

By Pete Castle
August 25, 2011

A MAN has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Aldershot Tesco.

A 40-year-old man from Farnborough was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody, police said.

The arrest follows an incident at 12.15pm on Wednesday (August 24), when a Group 4 Securicor van was making a delivery of money to the cash machines at the supermarket in Wellington Avenue, Aldershot.

The guards were approached by two men who both had their faces covered. One of the men threatened the guards with a handgun, police believe, forcing them to hand over two cases of cash.

Both men then made off with the money along the A325 towards Farnham on a distinctive orange motorbike, described as having a large fuel tank with stripes on the side.

Bike recovered

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information about the motorbike, which has since been recovered.

Detective Sergeant Tim Ireson said: “I would like to hear from anyone who saw this orange motorbike in Aldershot or the surrounding areas before or after the robbery at Tesco yesterday.

“Equally, I would like to hear from anyone who was at the store at about midday who hasn’t yet spoken to a police officer.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Aldershot CID on 101 or via the Hampshire police website.

You can also call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
