Police appeal to trace armed robbers
By Pete CastleSeptember 05, 2011
DETECTIVES hunting for a pair of armed robbers want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity around a cash delivery van.
Police are trying to find anyone in Aldershot, Fleet or Farnham who may have seen any clues as to how two robbers, one armed with a gun, managed to hold up the Group 4 Securicor van at Tesco in Aldershot on August 24.
At about 12.15pm on Wednesday, August 24, the security van was making a delivery of money to the cash machines at the newly re-opened supermarket in Wellington Avenue, Aldershot.
The guards were approached by two men who both had their faces covered.
The guards were threatened by one of the men, who it is thought had a handgun.
The man with the gun was white, around 5ft 8ins tall, was between 25 and 30 years old, and was wearing dark jeans and a dark top.
He had a black balaclava with holes for eyes, nose and mouth, and was holding a black handgun.
The second man was white, aged between 25 and 30, around 6ft tall, and was wearing a red and white motorbike helmet and carrying a large material bag.
Both men then escaped on a motorbike with a large quantity of money, along the A325 Farnborough Road towards Farnham, on a distinctive orange motorbike with a large fuel tank and stripes on the side.
The bike was found later that day in a car park in Cavalry Court, Aldershot.
As well as people who may have seen the hold-up, police are asking for anyone who saw any 'suspicious activity' involving a blue G4S van on that morning in Fleet, Farnham, and Aldershot between 7am and midday.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Constable Sarah Moyce-Phillips on 101, or to leave a message via the Hampshire Constabulary website.
Alternatively anyone with information can call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where details can be left anonymously. Minicom users can call 01962 875000.
