Shots fans pull together for Wembley theft victims

ALDERSHOT Town fans have promised to show that supporters from lower league clubs have big hearts by helping a couple who lost out at football’s European showpiece.
A couple of Manchester United fans, Tom and Sue Clare, will forgo the usual delights of Old Trafford to experience football at the EBB Stadium, the Recreation Ground, in Aldershot tomorrow (Saturday).
Their matchday experience has been paid for by a group of Shots supporters, called Fans Matter, formed on the fan website Shotsweb.
Mark Taylor, match day announcer for Aldershot, said he met the couple in a pub close to Wembley Stadium on the evening of the Champions League Final between Man Utd and Barcelona.
“About 15 minutes into the game a couple caught my eye coming through the door,” he said. “The lady was clearly upset and shaken while her husband was holding her.
“I went over and asked if they were OK and they were clearly distressed. They explained to me that they had been robbed at the entrance to Wembley as they were waiting to go in. Their tickets had been stolen.”
Mr Taylor said that he wanted to do something to help the couple, so he posted the story on Shotsweb.
“The reaction was fantastic,” he said. “A group called Fans Matter was set up and £350 was raised.”
The cash was used to buy a hospitality package at Aldershot, which was then donated to Mr and Mrs Clare.
The Holiday Inn in Farnborough also agreed to pay for a night’s stay, with another Shots fan also paying for their evening meal.
