A TEENAGER has died after being hit by a car in an early morning hit and run incident.

Police believe the 19-year-old male was struck by a car on the busy A287 Farnham to Odiham road on Sunday morning.

He was found by a passer-by with serious injuries on an unlit section of road between Crondall and the start of the Odiham bypass during heavy rain sometime between 2.30 and 3.30am.

Police believe the teenager was struck by a car which continued towards Odiham without stopping.

He later died from his injuries.

Sgt Darren Ord from the Road Death Investigation Team said on Sunday: "At this stage we are looking for a car that was involved in this incident.

"It is likely that this vehicle sustained damage to the front of the vehicle, headlight and windscreen/windows.

"We are also interested to hear from anybody who saw a pedestrian on this road between the hours of 2.30 and 3.30 this morning."

The busy road was closed for a number of hours while crash investigators examined the scene.

A police spokesman said that although next of kin have been informed, details of the dead teenager will not be released until a formal identification procedures have been completed.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted by a Home Office pathologist today (Monday).

North East Hampshire coroner Andrew Bradley has been informed of the death.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Hampshire Constabulary's road death investigation team, quoting Operation Hawthornes on 0845 0454545 or leave an anonymous message with the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
