Armed robbers target cash delivery van

MEN armed with weapons including a sledgehammer robbed a cash delivery van in Farnborough on Monday night.

Police are appealing for information after two men wearing balaclavas targeted a cash delivery van at Farnborough's Santander bank, in Eastmead, between 10pm and 10.25pm.

The men robbed two security guards, from Group 4 Security, who were delivering cash to the bank.

One of the security guards was assaulted by an offenders, police have said.

The robbers were armed, one with a sledgehammer, and one with another weapon. No guns or firearms were involved in the crime.

After grabbing a quantity of cash, the robbers escaped in what is believed to be a white Vauxhall car.

Detectives believe this car may have been in a collision with, or had a near miss with a white Audi as it was leaving the car park outside Santander.

The bank is also near to a taxi rank, and the bus station, so police hope there may have been people around at the time of the robbery who saw something suspicious, or the vehicles described.

Detective Inspector Tim Ireson said: “I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or saw any suspicious vehicles, possibly a white Vauxhall car, to contact me as soon as possible.

“I would also like to appeal directly to the driver of the white Audi to contact me, as they may have vital information about this incident.

“No matter how insignificant you think your information is, it could really help with this investigation.

“I would like to reassure residents and local businesses that this is an unusual incident for the Farnborough area and my team of officers are working hard to find out who is responsible.”

Anyone who has information should call Det Insp Ireson at Aldershot Police Station on 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
