Racist graffiti concern for police and locals

By Stephanie Cockroft
January 13, 2012

A SERIES of racist insults and celebrations of far-right political parties were found strewn across buildings in Aldershot last week.

The offensive graffiti, brazened across the buildings in bright red spray paint, included references to the National Front (NF), The British National Party (BNP) and the English Defence League (EDL), three groups renowned for their right-wing policies.

Using words such as ‘maggots’ and a derogatory term for East Asians, the vandals defaced toilet blocks, homes and numerous commercial properties during the rampage.

Offensive swear words as well as instructions to ‘go home’, were also daubed across the buildings.

The graffiti was spotted on Friday of last week by police who were on patrol in Aldershot at around 4.45am.

Still not backing up what your saying though, other than 'of course its happening'

Damilola Taylor's killers released just after 8 years

Known Terrorists walking our streets who have openly made threats against us - of course can’t be deported coz of their uman rites

Somali gang who racially beat up a white girl - spared a prison sentence.

Manchester thug who left his victim in hospital for 6 months walks laughing from court with arms held high in celebration - again spared a prison sentence.

I could go on and on , but I am starting to foam at the mouth and it going all over my Daily Mail (:

   Touche.

Still not backing up what your saying though, other than 'of course its happening'.

Yup, all those murderers and rapists are getting off so leniently. Saw a group of them hanging around the street corner earlier.

Dave 2009 - Also, any evidence to back up your claim that other crime is just a 'slap on the wrist'?

Errr hello what planet are you on, I see and hear of it everyday how soft sentances are handed out.

And as for the Gaurdian, funny that, I dont read the Mail either but that did not stop you ?

Doormon - so racist graffiti is acceptable?

Also, any evidence to back up your claim that other crime is just a 'slap on the wrist'?

Thought not. And yes, I'll go back to reading my Guardian, which I don't actually read, but seems to be the token comeback for anyone who disagrees with you.

doormon, I don't understand how you make the connection that if police spot graffiti, then they must not be doing their other work - what is your suggestion? The police ignore it? It's not an arduous job to log it, and pass it on to the relevant people, after all it is criminal damage and is a crime.

We are all in it together - people need to stop seeing themselves as observers looking from the sidelines at a dying community, and realise they are part of the problem and part of the solution. If you see a crime, report it, that is your responsibility. The police don't have crystal balls.

Stiff upper lip, keep calm and carry on and all that.

Interesting .... 'Maybe those who wrote this graffiti should be ashamed of themselves in the first place -because in the end it is done to us the tax payers that have to pay for the clean up, and one that does is fed up with how people treat my Home town.'

They should be ashamed of being evil racists first and foremost. The toleration of lightweight racism has led to a shift from a shameful hidden subculture of abuse to a more vociferous and confident ideology that thrusts itself in the face of it's victims. This has to stop.

No matter where you go, there are people who are determined to stir up trouble. Unfortunately we all feel that we are not able to verbalise our own feelings for being branded a racist. There are those that decide to 'air their views' in an alternative manner, and as mentioned, this is what us taxpayers end up paying for.

I was born in Aldershot and have lived here all my life. It once used to be a vibrant town that was fun to go to on weekends - however, those days are long gone as all youth shops have been over-run by take-away shops, pubs, and betting shops, along with travel shops and estate agents.

Hopefully the new Westgate will bring a bit more life back to the town, but we need diversity within the town centre itself. The Galleries was a huge mistake and we have paid the price ever since. We had a broad range of shops then, but they have all since closed down and moved on.

It is a shame that people put their views on this comments section that also want to bring trouble into things and create arguments, just to see their words in print somewhere and to feel they are doing something constructive. This breeds (obviously, due to below comments) and word fight between people with different views. We should all have a forum to be able to give our views, without being attacked by others and the people controlling these sites need to stop this sort of needless banter between people because it makes others angry and doesn't allow them to form their own opinions.

If only we could all live together and respect each other for our differences.

I for one am not happy about the 'tsunami' of Nepalese into our town because of the detrimental effect it has had on our community as a whole. It could be likened to an invasion because there are so many of a different culture coming together in one place it is bound to have an effect. The same way that if we all decided to go and set up home in Nepal it would change their way of life. They have had a rather native life and do not know how to interact with our society. Language is a HUGE barrier but it cannot be easy for a largely elderly race to learn a whole new language in a short space of time. I would also assume that not a lot of them WANT to.

Anyway, please, less of the fighting between ourselves and keep our town ticking over with our OWN community spirit.

One thing I notice about the Nepalese - they always nod and smile at each other....maybe some of us should all try that during the day to people we don't know instead of going around with sour miserable faces. Brighten up our own demeanours to show everyone how nice we can be.

I love and care for you all, no matter who you are or what your views are. THE WORLD NEEDS A LOT MORE LOVE.

Peace out xxx

It just proves by the responses below what Aldershot has become!

The police work hard as it is - Just this morning I saw two police personnel on bikes riding down the road - so maybe this is the way the found the graffiti in the first place.

Maybe those who wrote this graffiti should be ashamed of themselves in the first place -because in the end it is done to us the tax payers that have to pay for the clean up, and one that does is fed up with how people treat my Home town.

I know it may not have much in it but if this kind of thing continues it will only make it worse!

Well spotted the police, now try and spot the thieves, muggers, rapists, vandals & thugs that prowl our streets and blight our lives.

Doormon clearly you've spotted them but decided not to tell the police,,,have pride in your town if something isn't right tell someone or do something...don't snipe from the sidelines.

it's because people don't get involved that the evil within our community is allowed to flourish

Dave 2009 & grump on the hiil

Sorry you are both so offended at the thought of thieves, muggers, rapists, vandals & thugs being arrested.

Now back to your Guardian and bury your heads in the sand.

Might not be the usual yobs that spring to mind at first - could be some left wing outsiders determind to stir up trouble.
