A SPECIAL needs school in Farnborough has been given an ‘outstanding’ report following a recent Ofsted inspection.

Henry Tyndale School, in Ship Lane, was commended after a visit by inspectors in early December.

The Ofsted report said: “Henry Tyndale provides an outstanding education for its pupils. Exemplary care, guidance and support provided by all staff ensure pupils make excellent progress and are extremely well prepared for the next stage in their lives.

“The school’s systems for behaviour management are operated consistently by all and are very carefully monitored.

“As a result, behaviour is outstanding.”

The report also praised teachers and recognised their support for children at the school. “Teaching and learning are outstanding overall and in all key stages,” the report said. “There are many examples of exemplary practice.

“Teachers and support staff establish excellent relationships with pupils and they provide very high quality support for personal development.”

Headteacher Rob Thompson was pleased with the outcome of the inspection and took the opportunity to praise staff at the school.

He said: “We are delighted with the report. The staff team here is not only a highly skilled and knowledgeable one but also very committed and extremely hard working. This report is a testament to them.

“There is a wide variety of special schools in Hampshire but there are 10 working with children with the most severe and complex needs.

“We are delighted that, once again, we have been singled out as the only one consistently providing excellent education for all.

“We are a relatively large special school with approximately 120 children.”

Many of the pupils at Henry Tyndale are autistic and a small number have physical disabilities.

The Ofsted inspectors recognised the steps taken by the school to provide the necessary care and support to its students for their learning.

“Many pupils have complex medical needs and it is a tribute to the highly effective systems for promoting attendance, as well as to pupils’ enjoyment of school, that attendance is above average,” the report said.
