Man appears in US court facing 'lewd act' charges

A FLEET man has appeared in court for the second time facing charges of having sexual encounters in the United States with a 13-year-old girl he reportedly met online.

Adam James Michael Robinson is accused of committing a "lewd act upon a child" six times last December 15.

The 21-year-old appeared at San Bernardino Superior Court in California on Wednesday, January 9 for a pre-preliminary conference.

He had previously appeared in the same court on New Year's Eve, where he denied all six charges.

Court documents from the US reveal that at the latest hearing, the court agreed to a psychiatric evaluation of Mr Robinson, who is accused of meeting the girl online before the alleged offences took place in a motel in Redlands, California.

The defendant will appear at a further hearing at the same court on February 21.
