Crackers at Christmas
19/12/2002
FOLLOWING on from the popularity of last year's club, Yateley Baptist Church again ran their Christmas children's club, Christmas Crackers, on December 14. It gave children a chance to have a day with their friends making cards and decorations including angels.
The club also involved some games and stories. Parents were able to enjoy a well-earned rest or spend the time Christmas shopping. The day ended with carol singing, a talk on the meaning of Christmas and mince pies.
Once again the club was over subscribed. "We offered places to children of primary school age," said organiser Celia Reynolds, "and had filled all the places within just over a week. As any parent knows, children can become excitable towards Christmas, so we are kept on our toes, but it is all worthwhile, as the children have such a good time."
Fun is top of the agenda, but there is a serious side too. "It's easy to forget what Christmas is all about with so much going on," said Celia. "Hopefully we have reminded the children that Christmas begins with ‘Christ'."
The church will be holding its Christmas services on Sunday, December 22, at 10.30am (family service) and 6pm (traditional carol service) as well as the Christmas day service, also at 10.30am.
