Bag snatchers target OAP (90)

30/12/2004

PENSIONERS, including a 90-year-old woman, have been targeted in the latest wave of purse snatching in Aldershot.

Over a two-hour period last Thursday lunchtime at least four purses were taken in Union Street and Wellington Street.

CCTV tapes are now being studied as police hunt the robbers and shoppers are being urged to be particularly vigilant.

Beat officer Stacey Beale said: “People need to keep an extra careful eye on handbags that have purses in them. It’s even better if they can put the purse elsewhere.”

She is asking shoppers to keep an eye on people who get near them. It is also useful to keep a list of numbers of cards so that if a purse is stolen they can be blocked quickly.

She believes there could have been more victims. If you are one of them ring her at Aldershot Police Station on 0845 045 45 45.
