ALDERSHOT Town FC have unveiled Kevin Dillon as the club's new manager.

The announcement was made at an official club press conference just before midday on Monday.

The Shots' hierarchy had remained tight-lipped on the identity of Gary Waddock's replacement, but Dillon, the 49-year-old former Reading first team coach, had been widely rumoured to be taking charge.

Acting chairman John Leppard said: "We went through the interview process last week and were impressed with the quality of applicants.

"Kevin was impressive at interview. His organisational qualities and professionalism was head and shoulders above the other candidates.

"He has done extensive research regarding the club and has watched the team play on a number of occasions recently.

"He knows the style of play that we have at the club and is aware of the ability of the squad of players. He also possesses great contacts within the game.

"The whole appointment is a progressive move for the club and we are highly delighted to have Kevin on board as our new manager and we look forward to working with him".

Dillon, who was born in Sunderland, has signed a contract until the summer of 2011.

A creative midfielder, he made 564 Football League appearances for Birmingham City, Portsmouth, Newcastle United and Reading, and collected England U21 honours.

He has played under some of the most respected managers in the business, including Sir Alf Ramsey, who gave him his Football League debut as a 17-year-old at Birmingham.

Most of his managerial experience has come at Reading. He was youth team coach, U19 coach and reserves coach before being made first team coach in 2001 under Alan Pardew, continuing in the same position under Steve Coppell as Reading were promoted to the Premier League in 2005.

Check back for more details from Monday's press conference.
