Ross Worner can be 'the next Joe Hart'

DEAN HOLDSWORTH says young goalkeeper Ross Worner reminds him of England No.1 Joe Hart.

Worner, 22, has been in inspirational form between the sticks for Aldershot Town since signing from Charlton Athletic last summer, earning himself a new deal which keeps him at the EBB Stadium until the end of the 2013/14 season.

And Holdsworth claims the Haslemere-born former Woking stopper is shaping up to be every bit as good as Hart, who similarly learned his trade in the lower leagues at Shrewsbury Town before going on to earn a huge reputation for himself at Manchester City and England.

Holdsworth said: “I’m delighted Ross has signed a two-year agreement with us. He has got a big future in football if he carries on the way he is going.

“I liken him, in all seriousness, to Joe Hart a few years ago, he’s got a great future.

"[Goalkeeping coach] Ashley Bayes has been brilliant with him as he has with Jamie Young, Jordan Clement and the other keepers we’ve had with us this season.

"Ross needs pushing and occasionally needs grounding and Ashley does that really well.”

On agreeing to the two-year dea,l Worner added: “I want to stay at Aldershot Town. It is a good club and I want to play for them.

"I didn’t expect to play as soon, but to come here, make the No.1 shirt my own in recent weeks and get another contract, it’s been a big year for me and it’s been a big learning curve also.

“It has been fully enjoyable and I am here because I want the club to push on. The club has ambition and we have a great goalkeeping coach in Ashley Bayes, who's been top drawer with me."
