Fans 'did Shots proud' on Soccer AM appearance
By Jon CouchNovember 22, 2012
EIGHT lucky fans flew the flag for Aldershot Town FC on national TV when they took centre stage on Sky Sports' cult football show Soccer AM.
The Shots supporters took their places in the Luther Blissett Stand as the show’s Fans of the Day, rubbing shoulders with presenters Helen Chamberlain and Max Rushden, as well as guests Roy Walker, of TV’s Catchphrase, and former Tottenham winger Ruel Fox.
The eight-strong team of Tony Roberts, Barry Hindmarsh, Dave Shearer, Steve Clout, Frank Drew, Ben Blundell, Rob Worrall and Paul Blundell were picked up by Soccer AM cars from the EBB Stadium and taken to the Sky Sports studios in Isleworth where they received the five-star treatment.
As part of their live TV experience, the fans also took part in the show’s Champions League car park game where two successful penalties from the boys propelled the Shots into the Championship.
Soccer AM bosses then offered to take the fans to Kingsmeadow to watch the Shots in action against AFC Wimbledon, but due to rugby traffic at Twickenham the guys opted instead to take the train and saw Dean Holdsworth’s men earn a 1-1 draw.
Shots’ commercial manager Ryan Murrant said: “It was a great day and the boys did themselves and the club proud.
"We took Helen and Max a gift of an ATFC cushion and the producers said they would get it on the set from next week.
“With that, added to Roy Walker wearing a Shots scarf on the show, it’s fantastic brand awareness for the Shots and our sponsor.”
