Farnborough to announce new manager
By Charlie OliverMay 21, 2009
Farnborough FC are on the brink of announcing their new manager.
The club have called a press conference at their Cherrywood Road ground for 7.30pm on Thursday for the 'formal announcement of the new First Team Manager', said a club press release.
Current Fleet Town boss Andy Sinton and Steve King, the former manager at Lewes and Northwich Victoria, are believed to have attracted the interest of Farnborough owner Simon Hollis.
Sinton has been the favourite to land the post but King, who led Lewes to a momentous rise up the non-league pyramid, certainly knows how to win a promotion or two, as Boro bid for promotion to the Conference South next season, after losing in the Southern Premier play-off final earlier this month.
A Fleet Town spokesman said today that, while Sinton had been approached and made an offer by Farnborough, his understanding was that Sinton had chosen to stay at Fleet and continue his job there.
To that extent, King is fast emerging as the most likely new incumbent at Cherrywood Road, although Hollis may yet spring a surprise.
Meanwhile, Maidenhead United manager Johnson 'Drax' Hippolyte, also linked to the vacant Cherrywood post, has distanced himself from the role.
"Hand on heart I can say I’ve never had any contact from Farnborough," Hippolyte told the Maidenhead Advertiser on Wednesday.
