‘We’re heading in right direction’ says Gateshead skipper
Ahead of their clash with Aldershot Town (September 20), Liam Hogan has told Gateshead’s club website that the team are moving in the right direction.
He reckons clubs have been wary of the number of goals they scored in the early matches, three at home to Chester and six against York City in their opening two home games.
They have failed to score in their last two, the last outing a 0-0 draw at home to Solihull Moors.
“Teams have seen our form earlier in the season and we scored a lot of goals prior to the past two games.
“So obviously credit to us that teams are sitting in and looking to hit us on the break.”
Brabin out, Cardin in
Paul Carden will be in charge as Tranmere Rovers take on at Prenton Park on Saturday (September24).
The club's former assistant manager has been appointed interim caretaker boss following the sacking of Gary Brabin.
Carden will be assisted by Shaun Garnett and head of academy and recruitment, Lee Jones.
The new chief has moved immediately to bring in Southport forward Louis Almond who has signed until the end of the 2017/18 season, for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old began his career with Blackpool while he has enjoyed loan spells at Cheltenham Town, Barrow AFC, Lincoln City and Hyde United.
Woking have released Charlie Penny who immediately rejoined Step Three Merstham, where he spent much of last season on loan from Dulwich Hamlet.
The striker, who scored 24 times for the Moatsiders last term, had only joined the Cards for a nominal fee in the summer.
He made three full and seven substitute appearances for Woking without managing to find the net, having set himself a target pre-season of 20 goals. He may well meet that personal goal, although now not with the Cards.
Cowgill joins Braintree
Boss Jamie Day has added to his squad, bringing in teenage centre-back Jack Cowgill.
The 19-year-old joined on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley.
Cowgill became a pro in 2014 after emerging through a pool of talent at the Yorkshire club’s academy, before progressing.
To date he has played just two games for first team at Oakwell.
Seasiders’ triple swoop
Lancashire outfit Southport have snapped up three new signings.
Jordan Lussey, Ryan Higgins and Declan Weeks have all joined the ranks at Haig Avenue.
Lussey started his career with Liverpool but never appeared in the first team despite playing a handful of games for the club’s U21s. The England U18 international was released by Bolton at the end of last season.
Higgins, 22, recently left National League side Chester.
Weeks, 20, is a Welsh U19 and U21 international and was released by Wolves at the end of last sterm.
Great Scott - Macclesfield sign Flinders
Scott Flinders has joined the Silkmen on a month’s loan from York City.
With more than 350 appearances to his name, he has a solid pedigree.
The 30-year-old started out at Barnsley before joining Crystal Palace in the summer of 2006.
He embarked on loan spells at Gillingham, Brighton and Yeovil among others, then completed a permanent switch to Hartlepool seven years ago, where he was a regular, making 284 appearances before joining York City in June 2015.
