The brother of Arsenal and England footballer Kieron Gibbs is ready to show off his own skills for Aldershot Town
Andy Scott is backing new boy Jaydon Gibbs to emerge out of his twin brother’s shadow and finally make a name of his own in the professional game.
The 23-year-old sibling of Arsenal and England full-back Kieron worked under Aldershot Town boss Scott as a promising youth at Leyton Orient.
But while Kieron went on to become one of the country’s top young prospects under Arsene Wenger, Jaydon lost his way in the game and ended up in the depths of non-league's Step 5 at Guildford City.
Now, however, after a move to Calor League Chipstead in the summer, Scott has stepped in to hand the left-winger a second chance in full-time football – and reckons he might have just stumbled across a little gem.
“I’ve known Jaydon for a long time,” Scott explained. “He fell out of the game but he has always had the ability and has really impressed since he’s been back training with us.
“Jaydon has lived in Kieron’s shadow for a long time – he’s always been known as Kieron’s brother rather than Jaydon and that’s something he’s had to live with.
“Now he wants to make a name for himself and knowing what he can do, I was happy to give him that opportunity.
“However, he has been playing at a very low level and he knows it is probably his last chance to make a go of full-time football. It will be interesting to see if he can make that step up.”
Indeed, Gibbs may even get the opportunity to impress as early as this weekend after Scott suffered a fresh injury blow in the 1-0 defeat at Southport last Saturday.
On-loan winger Jack Maloney has returned to Portsmouth for treatment on a thigh injury and is definitely out of Saturday’s visit of Macclesfield Town.
Unfortunately, however, Gibbs will not be watched by his regular entourage of fans this weekend.
Kieron, along with fellow Gunners Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, are frequent visitors to watch Jaydon in action, but all three will be on England duty ahead of their two World Cup qualifiers this week.
