Shots defend home record against Imps

Tonight (Tuesday) Aldershot entertain Lincoln City in League Two (7.45pm kick-off).

Peter Jackson’s men drew 0-0 with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday. The visitors had Richard Walker sent off for an elbow after just three minutes, so it was another frustrating goalless afternoon for Lincoln, who saw The Shots go above them in the table, thanks to the 1-0 win at Chester.

The Imps also failed to score playing ten men against Darlington for 76 minutes the week before - in a match won 2-0 by high-flying Darlo.

Given that Lincoln were dumped out of the FA Cup by non-league Kettering in between those two failures, it has not been a good last ten days for Jackson's side.

That said, Lincoln stormed up the League Two table in October on the back of four straight wins, taking 16 points from a possible 18, showing the form that many expected from them at the start of the season.

November has not been so kind and Lincoln have not won any of their five games this month. The men from Sincil Bank still boost one of the better defences in the division — but that goal-shy attack is one of the worst.

Their lack of goals is not helped by the absence of striker Adrian Patulea with injury. The Romanian, City's joint-top scorer - who turned heads earlier this season, thanks to his bizarre training routine of running around the pitch with his wife on his back - has a hamstring injury and is unlikely to be fit.

Jackson, who beat throat cancer as well as steering Lincoln to safety last season after they sat bottom of the Football League, looks set to field a 4-3-3 formation.

Scottish striker David Graham may come in up front in the middle, while Dany N'Guessan, out wide, has plenty of pace and power but has been inconsistent of late.

Danny Hone, at the back, is a young defender with a bright future, while Stefan Oakes, the former Leicester City player, pulls the strings in midfield and Lee Frecklington weighs in with a fair share of goals.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair, now aged 36, is likely to start the game from the bench.

Aldershot, who are unbeaten at home and looking for a fourth win and clean sheet on the bounce, are expected to start with the XI that finished the match at Chester on Saturday, assuming captain Rhys Day is still injured. That would mean a first start for Andy Sandell out wide.

Other options available to Gary Waddock, should Day be injured - the manager said on Saturday that his captain had 'no chance' of making tonight's game - would be to keep Chris Blackburn at right back and bring Ricky Newman into central defence, or to play Junior Osborne at right back, which would mean Louie Soares, not Sandell, plays further forward.

Striker Danny Hylton completes a three-match ban.

Lincoln City's last visit to the Rec, in March 1992, turned out to be the old Aldershot FC's last home match. The crowd should be more than twice the 1,473 loyal souls who watched that game - and Aldershot Town's support will be hoping for a very different outcome to the 3-0 win for The Imps.

Former Shots star and current director of football at Camberley Town, Darren Barnard, is the guest of honour tonight. Barnard, like Sinclair, a former Chelsea fullback, turns 37 on Sunday - while Sinclair does the very same next Wednesday.
