Lashings of Test stars on show at Eversley
By Jon CouchJune 07, 2012
FORMER world No.1 batsman Mohammed Yousuf heads a star-studded list of Test stars descending on Eversley on Friday afternoon (June 8).
The Pakistan big-hitter is part of a Lashings World XI touching down in the village for their annual fixture, which attracted a crowd of more than 2,000 last year.
Yousuf finished playing first class cricket for Warwickshire last summer having called time on his Test career less than two years ago, finishing with an average of 52.29 in 90 matches.
Indeed the Lashings XI this year, captained by former England paceman Phil DeFreitas, features two current first-class cricketers in the side who are still playing.
New Zealand international Ian Butler plies his trade at Otago in domestic cricket, while Indian opener Wasim Jaffer recently ended a successful four-year period as captain of Mumbai.
The marquees will once again be up around the ground and the adjacent Frog and Wicket pub will be putting on hospitality and a live band in the evening. The game gets under way at 2.30pm.
The Lashings XI is as follows: Mohammed Akram (Pakistan), Ed Giddins (England), Henry Olonga (Zimbabwe), Wasim Jaffa (India), Mohammed Yousuf (Pakistan), Ian Butler (New Zealand), Devon Malcolm (England), Philip DeFreitas (England, (captain), Saqlain Mustaq (Pakistan), Lou Vincent (New Zealand), Imran Nazir (Pakistan).
