High-flier Isobel Pooley has insisted she is on track for a place at this summer’s Commonwealth Games after completing an historic double-double in Bedford at the weekend.
The British No.2 high jumper, from Fleet, comfortably took gold at the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Athletics Championships at the weekend by clearing a tournament record height of 1.85m.
And it helped the University of Nottingham student complete a famous clean sweep after following up her indoor success in the corresponding meet back in February where she cleared 1.87m – also a tournament best.
Pooley, 21, is now setting her sights on clearing the Commonwealth selection height of 1.90m for the first time this season as she looks to lay down a marker for the Games in Glasgow.
“I’m delighted to win the BUCS event in my last year as a student, and it really bodes well for the rest of the season,” Pooley said.
“Bedford is my favourite venue so I was confident going to the meet, but this has given me belief that my form and fitness are where they need to be for the start of what will be a long season ahead.”
