Lily Partridge flew the flag for the all-conquering Aldershot, Farnham & District team by coming through to take the Inter-Counties Cross Country title in Birmingham on Saturday.

She managed to shake off Cheshire’s Katie Brough to win the eight kilometre race with five seconds to spare.

And in doing so, Partridge helped Surrey to a fine team bronze medal with AFD supplying the county’s next three scorers in Emily Wicks (fifth) Georgie Bruinvels (seventh) and Ruth Haynes (77th).

Meanwhile, AFD pair Amy Griffiths and Grace Baker finished third and fourth respectively in the u20 women’s race – the latter leading Sussex to the silver medal.

Niamh Brown claimed an individual bronze medal in the u15 girls race, while Jack Crabtree finished fourth in the u17 men's but did gain a medal by leading Surrey to second, helped by George Gathercole, who came in 21st.

Half of the Surrey u17 women’s side that took silver comprised of AFD members – Katie Shiel-Rankin (17th) and Eloise Milbourn (23rd), while Daisy D’Santos, representing Hampshire, was sixth.

AFD also provided half of Surrey’s bronze-medal winning  senior men’s team. Jonny Hay led them home in fifth while Ian Bailey was 12th and Steve Connor 24th.

Surrey won the u13 boys’ title, while Hampshire’s Jake Cvetkovic, was eighth u15 boy.
