Enthusiasm grows as primary school pupils from Eversley have been learning cricket
Schoolchildren continue to enjoy the game of cricket a year since taking sports sessions at Eversley Indoor Cricket Centre.
Since January 30 last year, pupils at Charles Kingsley’s Primary School have enjoyed regular cricket lessons at the centre in Fox Lane, Eversley Cross.
The school started using the state-of-the-art facilities during term-time so the sport could be taught during the winter as well as the summer.
Last Thursday, girls and boys in Year 4 learnt basic bat and ball techniques as part of their six-week programme.
Steve Bucksey, one of the managers at the cricket centre, said: “The children come over to us every Thursday.
“It is a partnership we have at the school, it is going very well and it runs throughout the school year.
"The school blocks out the centre six weeks at a time so each year group has a turn.
“We have been running fun games for the Year 4 children, with catching and bowling skills to get them prepared to play a game.”
The custom-built indoor cricket centre was opened in January 2010. It is managed on behalf of Eversley Cricket Club by Supersportz Ltd.
Last week, the centre launched a new after-school development programme for girls and boys aged five to 10.
