AFTER a six-year absence, Camberley golfer Glenn Ralph will be back in the big time next season after enjoying a record-breaking year on the circuit.
Ralph, the in-house professional at Camberley Heath Golf Club, has earned himself a place in next year's Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth after claiming overall victory in the South Region Order of Merit.
And, in doing so, Ralph has re-paid the faith shown in him by his fellow professionals, who voted him in as South Region PGA captain this year. This is the first time on record that the captain has topped the Order of Merit table.
Ralph said: "Obviously I am very excited about playing in the PGA next year. It will be great to go back having had a six-year gap since leaving the tour and starting at Camberley.
"Having played in most of the championships during my 20 years on Tour, it will be like going back to school, but will give me a chance to renew a lot of old friendships."
Consistent performances were the name of the game for Ralph this season - claiming second twice, third twice and two other top ten finishes in the six regional championships that make up the tour.
This enabled him to finish just above West Berkshire's Paul Simpson to take the title.
Ralph is back in action in slightly better conditions in two weeks time when he represents the South Region in Valderrama, Spain, against the eight other regional champions.
