Training partners Ryan Davies and Jason Turner are heading to one of the best boxing gyms in the world to rub shoulders with the stars this summer – but first their focus is on extending their unbeaten records in Portsmouth on June 6.
The ARD Training Camp professionals are heading off to Los Angeles, USA, to train at the world famous Wild Card gym.
Freddie Roach is the head trainer there and his fighters include Manny Pacquiao, the fast-fisted Filipino whirlwind who’s won world titles in five weight divisions and is ranked near the top of the pound-for-pound rankings.
“I’ve worked hard, saved up my money and now a few of us are going over,” said Davies, the 20-year-old lightweight from Farnborough.
“It should be a great experience to be around some of the best fighters in the world.
“My trainer, Andre Daltrey, has already been there and has made a few contacts.
“I’m hoping to get some sparring at the Wild Card and pick up some tips from the coaches and fighters.”
Davies has had back-to-back wins this year and is sure to have plenty of support at next month’s show at the Mountbatten Centre.
He says his dream venue is the home of darts !
“The Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green would be a great venue for a show,” he said. “I’ve been there for a party before and who knows, maybe I could top the bill there one day.
“I’m ambitious and boxing somewhere like that is definitely one of my targets.
“It’s the best venue in the area and I’m sure I could sell a lot of tickets there.”
Davies’s sparring partner Floyd ‘Pac Man’ Moore tops the bill at the Mountbatten Centre when he defends his Southern Area lightweight title against Adam Dingsdale and tickets for the show are available from 07825 046894.
