JUDO: Manor duo in medal haul

14/ 2/2006

Pinewood Judo Club’s lower grade juniors had a great result representing their schools in an event held at the Pinewood Club.

Yateley Manor duo Marcus Trafford and Matthew Shakespeare led the way with gold and bronze respectively, while Bearwood College pair, Sam and Joshua Trafford won silver and gold.

Oldfield Primary also fared well with Anastasia Andrews, Yolande Andrews and Hannah Moore all winning gold medals, while Holly and Jade Eccles from Hurst Lodge both won silver medals.

Ryan Cooper from Pines Junior School won gold, Emily Harper of Embrook silver and Phoebe Augier from St Francis Primary took a bronze medal.

The next day these and more of the Pinewood young hopefuls were fighting at the Willesden Red Belt Championship. They came away with a good score of medals and these events are of great importance to the lower grade children because they help them learn about contest nerves and how to cope with them.

Gold medals went to: Marcus Trafford, Alex Tonnison, Asher Price, Joshua Trafford, Jamie Predgen, James Derlacki, Kyran Edmunds, Timothy Kinsey, Sam Wyke, Emily Harper, Jade Eccles, Paige Brazier, Hannah Moore, Nicole Brown, Carinthia Ryan Hooper and Emma Pang.

Silver medals went to: Ben Roberts, Elliot Trainor, Sam Trafford, Jack Duffy, Phoebe Augier, Rebekah Brown, Rebecca Arkell and Dominique Brown.

Two bronze medals were won by Jasmine Crean and Anastasia Andrews.

Pyrford Judo Club took part in the first round of the Surrey League for 2006, and enjoyed some excellent results with gold medals going to Jack Carver, Michael Dean, Benjamin Wilk, Adrian Kay, Catherine Jamieson, Ellie Cauchi, Colleen Rice and Hannah Cauchi, while 10 other players making it into the County squad.

This squad will form the basis for County team events throughout the year. These great results have put Pyrford on top of the league after the first round with 81 points and closest rivals on 72 points are Sovereign JC from Reigate.

A little further afield 14-year-old Robert McCallum took the bronze medal at the Bristol Classic and 15-year-old Katie Dean took fifth place in the North West Senior ranking event held in St Helens.

This was an excellent result as she is still eligible to compete in Junior events.

As ever all the results can be seen on the club’s web site www.pyrfordjudo.com.
