Continue the fight

31/ 7/2008

It is with the greatest of pleasure that I have learned that the attempt to close the Bourley Road car park and to develop the QE Barracks site has just been turned down by the Secretary of State.

It only goes to show that the successful protest by innumerable local concerned residents has triumphed.

May I thank all those who attended the meeting last year in the Princes Hall for their interest and dedication. Without that, and the constant pressure from our Community Action Group; especially James Radley who fought a long and extremely bitter battle with the lawyers on our behalf.

We cannot afford to be blinded by our success however, for the developers have not given up the fight. We must be vigilant against any further intrusions into our community by those Robber Barons.

Having read the judgement, I am convinced that somewhere in central government, there is a modicum of sense and reason.

This is a great day for all of us and for our children. It is also a great day for the wildlife and the countryside.

I also thank the Star for having publicised my small part in the saga.
