Taxpayers’ cash used
8/ 8/2008
As a former user of the Connaught Leisure Centre and a victim of a heart attack also one of the founders of the rehabilitation centre at the recreation centre at Farnborough.
I read with interest the article (Heart help at centre, Star July 31) about the new programme to help heart attack victims return to health and fitness.
Of course I welcome this project, and the management committee of the centre should be congratulated for introducing it.
However I would like to correct a comment in the article which states that county councillor Eric Neal made a donation to the programme.
This could be interpreted that Coun Neal made a personal donation to this important scheme. However your readers should be aware that the funds Coun Neal donated have come from a pot of public money allocated to each county councillor for local projects.
Therefore this is money collected from us as council taxpayers and not a personal donation.

- Thanks to Jim for clarifying this – that the donation was made from public money was not mentioned. We are happy to set the record straight and apologise for any confusion which may have arisen – Editor
