Rubber bands are litter

14/ 8/2008

Anyone finding Royal Mail elastic bands littering the streets can email their complaint direct to Royal Mail’s Chief Executive Officer, Adam Crozier, at: adam.crozier@royalmail.com

Iain Thompson, delivery office manager at the Farnborough delivery office, claims the reason rubber bands have been dropped on and around our property is because the mail pouch used by our regular officer is very worn and has several holes in.

Surely our regular postie doesn’t cover the whole of Rushmoor and beyond?

Sheffield, East Riding of Yorkshire, Oxford, Havant and London are among many other communities to be affected by Royal Mail’s littering.

Rushmoor Council’s environmental officer told me it wasn’t their responsibility to speak to Royal Mail, yet they would be quick to fine anyone dropping chewing gum, or other litter on the pavement.

  • Royal Mail uses 342 million red rubber bands every year and claims they are degradable. There’s lots to read on this subject on the internet if you Google “Royal mail rubber bands” – Editor
