'Pick your own' is a great day out, you can take your children along and show them where their food comes from.

As well as using up some of that seemingly endless excess energy, they’ll have something to show for their efforts too.

Recent studies have shown that if children get involved with fresh food in a fun way, they take an interest in what they eat and are more likely to try and enjoy healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables.

So why not take the kids to a pick-your-own farm and fill up your freezer with your favourite crops? You'll find that it's cheaper too.

Let us know of any that you and your family have enjoyed by emailing laura.nightingale@trinitymirror.com.

Don't forget to check with each individual venue before your go - the amount of fruit available depends on each season and on the number of people who have visited.
